I was recently invited to a baby shower, and I may or may not have gone crazy making things. It got me to thinking, "someone should make a list of great patterns for baby gifts", and I realized that "someone" could be me! So I asked my designer friends to spam me with their most popular patterns, and they delivered BIG TIME!
One of the things I've been reading on social media is that people get frustrated when the velvet yarn stretches, especially when making items like headbands. My headband pattern includes a hair elastic at the base of the neck and is made intentionally small to allow for the stretch. This headband has been a big seller for me, and I hope you love it as much as I do!
I picked up a ball of Ferris Wheel by Lion Brand on a whim, and boy was I in for a nice surprise! Just in its own balled-up existence, the colors are so eye-catching. (No wonder one of them just landed in my cart that day!)
My blanket is about 6.5 feet square, and I used a total of 18 skeins of yarn on this bad boy. I haven't yet weighed it, but I estimate that it weighs somewhere around 7 pounds. I originally joined them with a slip stitch in the back, but once I turned it over and spread it out, my blanket looked way too busy with all of the different squares. Luckily, I hadn't yet woven in all of the ends, so frogging was not the worst experience ever.
Wow, the last pattern is here already. The past 12 weeks have really flown by somehow! Now the task of joining all 36 squares is at hand. (Why did I punish myself by making 3 of each square? Oh, yeah. Because they were so fun to make!) This week's square is called the Jacob's Ladder square by Jo's Crafty Hook.
The Stars and Stripes Headband is my first pattern using my signature Dolphin Stitch. I love this stitch because of its texture and versatility. This stitch is easy to master, works up quickly, and is already loved by hundreds of crocheters. Week Eleven, y'all. Can you believe it? I now have 33 squares completed, ends woven in and blocked. As soon as I finish the last 3 next week, it will be time to join them all together. Joining squares is what has made me say, "never again" at least 6 times already, but I love the look of a patchwork blanket.
