Delightful Velvet Headband- FREE Crochet Pattern

Apologies for the lack of posts as of late. 2019 was a very tough year for my family, and apparently the absolute worst year I could have chosen to start my business. I had to prioritize, and obviously family comes first. I am cautiously optimistic that this year will be easier on us. Wait, scratch that. The majority of the past decade has been rough on my family. Cheers to the new “Roaring 20s”!
I am super excited about this year though. I have a ton of exciting plans for Straight Hooked, and I can’t wait to share them with you! If you aren’t already following me on social media, make sure you do it right now, as I will be sharing most of the details of upcoming events and projects on Facebook and Instagram.

I am planning on running a couple (or more) Crochet-a-longs, adding a bunch of new patterns to both the store and the blog, and even doing some video tutorials and yarn reviews. I’d love to hear from you what you’re most excited about and what kinds of topics you’d like on the blog and in videos. Please feel free to leave a comment below or on Facebook or Instagram. Since starting Straight Hooked, I have made so many new friends who share my love of yarn and hooks. I really want to get to know you better too, so stay in touch!

As a little gift to you, I’d like to share my pattern for the Delightful Velvet Headband. One of the things I’ve been reading on social media is that people get frustrated when the velvet yarn stretches, especially when making items like headbands. My headband pattern includes a hair elastic at the base of the neck and is made intentionally small to allow for the stretch. This headband has been a big seller for me, and I hope you love it as much as I do!

The Delightful Velvet Headband pattern is featured in the Crochet to Donate event, hosted by Sunflower Cottage Crochet! You can download the PDF for free on 5/20/23 when you use the code you will find on the main blog hop page.

Materials:
47 yards velvet yarn (I prefer Bernat Velvet. For my reasons why, click HERE)
US size I crochet hook (5.50mm)
no-break elastic hair tie
finishing needle

Abbreviations:
ch – chain
hdc – Half-double Crochet
slst- Slip Stitch
st(s) – Stitch(es)
sk – Skip

Notes:
The elastic should provide enough stretch for the finished headband to fit most heads. If you need to adjust the size, you can add or subtract rows 6 and 7, keeping in mind that the twist on row 22 will move slightly.
