The folks at KnitPal reached out to me last fall and asked if I would be interested in testing out their new yarn. You know I can't turn down an offer for yarn, so of course I was delighted to accept! I chose 2 colors of their Retro-Glam yarn. This yarn is incredibly soft and shiny. I immediately fell in love with it...
The Peppermint Stripe Scarf is here, and even better- it will be forever free on the Straight Hooked Blog! I designed this pattern using Brava Worsted yarn and my Furls Streamline hook.
My friend Helen from Sunflower Cottage Crochet invited me to participate in the Preemie Crochet Challenge again this year, and of course I agreed! My niece was a micro-preemie born at 24 weeks gestation, so this event has a special place in my heart. (Plus I love designing baby things even though it really isn't in my normal niche of pattern designs!)
The texture of the stitches creates little bumps inside the triangles which reminded me of moguls on ski slopes! Once you get the stitch combination committed to your memory, this scarf works up super fast as well. I designed the Moguls Scarf using Lion Brand Ferris Wheel yarn in the Imaginary Garden colorway. I love crocheting with the Ferris Wheel line of yarns because the yarn is made specifically for crocheting and the colorways are all SO gorgeous!
I designed the Friendship Prayer Shawl in 2020, and it has been a bestseller for the past 3 years. In the true spirit of friendship, I am now sharing it with you for free here on the Straight Hooked blog! I used Lion Brand Mandala Ombre in the Tranquil colorway. I absolutely loved working with this yarn. It is so soft and easy to work with, and the color changes are just perfection!
I went on a huge designing-scarves-using-Ferris-Wheel kick this fall, and each of them will be available as Forever Free patterns here at Straight Hooked. The Wild Violets Scarf is fun to make and creates a gorgeous texture everyone will rave about!
When I saw the new Lion Brand Mandala Sequins yarn winking at me, I just couldn't help myself. As I was working up the Storybook Scarf design, the combinations of the bright colors, sequins and the texture reminded me of a book my daughter had so many moons ago when she a tiny tot. Does the scarf remind you of a specific book from the early 2000s? (I asked my daughter when she came to visit a couple weeks ago, and she did not think of it, so don't feel bad if it hasn't come to you yet!)
