As soon as I opened my package of City Tweed DK yarn from KnitPicks, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. This soft yarn was begging to be made into an ultra-wide shawl, with just enough ventilation to allow me to breathe but not become too chilly. This meant it was time to try my hand at designing something with the filet crochet technique.
I wanted to create a versatile summer wrap that can be worn for any occasion, from an outdoor wedding to hanging around the campfire. And so I present to you the Practical Pashmina! I designed this pashmina using just under 800 yards of Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend, although any 3 weight yarn will work perfectly for this design. You will also want your favorite 5mm crochet hook and a little pile of stitch markers to make your Practical Pashmina.
The Radiant Ridges Shawl pattern is perfect for an intermediate crocheter, but with a little patience, an advanced beginner could tackle this project as well! You just need knowledge of front and back post stitches to create this stunning texture. The PDF includes step by step photos of the more complex stitches used.
The great thing about this cold snap is that it is finally getting a fall-vibe around here.
