Happy Friday, my friends!
I have been designing scarves like crazy lately, and I am thrilled to be sharing another one with you today, which will be forever free here on the Straight Hooked blog!
I have mentioned before that I can't help but to fondle the yarn when I make a trip to Walmart. I actually have such a large stash of yarn that I challenged myself at the beginning of 2021 to not purchase any yarn all year long, unless it was for a special order.
Guess how many frivolous yarn purchases I made last year? Zero. I did so well with my challenge to not purchase any yarn in 2021 that I decided to challenge myself again in 2022.
Well... I guess you could say I fell off the wagon just a little bit, because when I saw the new Lion Brand Mandala Sequins yarn winking at me, I just couldn't help myself. A couple (okay, 4) of those yarn babies just had to come home with me!
The colorway I fell in love with is called Tanzanite, and it came out even prettier as a finished project than it looked when it called my name from the Walmart shelf!
As I was working up this design, the combinations of the bright colors, sequins and the texture reminded me of a book my daughter had so many moons ago when she a tiny tot. Does the scarf remind you of a specific book from the early 2000s? (I asked my daughter when she came to visit a couple weeks ago, and she did not think of it, so don't feel bad if it hasn't come to you yet!)
The book it reminded me of was Rainbow Fish. Now do you see the resemblance to shiny colorful fish scales?
Due to my not wanting to name a pattern after a copywritten character, I chose the next best thing to name my new scarf- the Storybook Scarf!
The Storybook Scarf pattern is available right here on the blog as a Forever Free pattern, but if you prefer an ad-free experience, you are welcome to purchase the PDF as well:
Use the code STORY22 by 4am MST on 11/12/22 to receive the PDF for free!

Additionally, if you are experiencing trouble accessing your cart, please clear your cache, try another browser, or try again later. There is an issue with my site that I am aware of, but currently unable to resolve.
A brand new Straight Hooked website is in the works though, and you're going to be delighted with both the appearance and the experience, so please don't write me off just yet!
