Happy first Friday in November! This month is going to be full of freebies because I am participating in not one, not two, but THREE different blog hop events, PLUS I have a brand new design that will be featured for FREE on a popular blog later this month. On top of that, my birthday is coming up, and I will be celebrating with all of my yarny friends (that's you) with something extra special!
To kick off November, I am so excited to share my first pattern release of the month. Presenting the Ice Cap Headband- the 3rd pattern in the Ice Cap Collection. It goes perfectly with the Ice Cap Fingerless Gloves pattern, which was released last month. The headband above I made using a bit of an old mandala cake I had laying around, and I didn't plan it, but the color changed right at the twist!
The Ice Cap series features my signature stitch, the Dolphin Stitch, which creates gorgeous texture and works up quickly. For my design sample above, I used less than one hank of ALC Yarns Superwash Merino in sport weight to make both the Ice Cap Fingerless Gloves and the Ice Cap Headband. If you have not yet tried this amazing yarn, I highly recommend that you do. It is so soft and buttery, works up like a dream, barely tangles even when your little doggy decides to take a nap in the hank as you're trying to cake it, and looks so fabulous both in the hank and in your finished project. (I don't get any compensation for telling you all about this yarn, by the way. I just love it so much and I know you will love it too). You can grab some for yourself HERE.
Have you noticed that crocheted headbands stretch out and end up too loose? I have what my husband refers to as a "pinhead" (meaning my head is tiny), and my crocheted headbands still stretched out. Drove me nuts, because in my opinion, the whole purpose of a headband is to keep your hair out of your face, right? How's that supposed to happen if the dang headband keeps sliding off? I came up with what I think is a brilliant solution to this problem, and my design is made smaller than your head and includes the use of an elastic hairtie to allow for the stretching. My Ice Cap Headband doesn't get too loose and stays on all day long!
Also, a big huge shoutout to my testers. Not only did they work quickly and help me with the wording on the tricky part, but they modeled their headbands so beautifully, I had to include these gorgeous ladies in my graphics!
