Moguls Scarf- Free Crochet Pattern

Moguls Scarf- Free Crochet Pattern

Hello Friends, and Happy Thanksgiving!

I am so excited to share another forever free pattern with you today. I had so much fun designing this one, and I hope you have just as much fun making your Moguls Scarf!

I found myself wanting to make a new design with every different color of Lion Brand Ferris Wheel yarn I owned, and the result was that I have scarf pattern after scarf pattern to share with you as we bring 2022 to a close. Now, that's something to be thankful for! Even better- most of them will be forever free here on the Straight Hooked blog.

If you haven't had the pleasure of trying out Lion Brand Ferris Wheel yarn yet, you are seriously missing out! (No, Lion Brand is not paying me for this endorsement, although I really wish they would, considering how much I love their yarn!) Most yarn is spun in an "s" twist, which I guess makes it great for knitters since the yarn gets tighter with each stitch. If you've ever dealt with your yarn splitting as you crochet, this is likely the reason. When we crochet, we actually untwist the yarn with each stitch just a little bit. However, there are some yarns which are spun in a "z" twist, like Lion Brand Ferris Wheel, which means that as we crochet with it, we tighten the yarn with each stitch, which makes for some amazing stitch definition.

Disclaimer: I am a right handed crocheter. I don't know if left handed crocheters experience "s" and "z" twist yarn differently. I've never handed my left handed crocheting daughter a ball of Ferris Wheel to ask if she has a different experience.

Regardless, I think you are going to love using this yarn whether you are left or right handed, or a beginner or experienced crocheter. The yarn is soft, and every colorway is exceptionally gorgeous!

Straight Hooked Moguls Scarf

I used the Imaginary Garden colorway for the Moguls Scarf, and I love the smooth transitions and how well you can see the texture of the design itself.

If you've read previous posts, you know that sometimes I have a really difficult time naming my designs. This particular scarf was named "triangle patterned scarf" in my notebook until it was time to finally type it up. I always ask my husband for name suggestions. Many times he gives me a terrible idea that I would never even consider, but sometimes those terrible names inspire a better one. Other times, he looks at my project and gives me a winning name. This was one of those occasions. I said, "This needs a name and 'triangle patterned scarf' is lame. What do you have?" He took a brief glance at me adorned in my pajamas and scarf and said, "I don't know. Those bumps remind me of moguls," and went back to what he was doing.
