Happy Friday! I have read a lot on social media that there seems to be a shortage of yarn, both in stores and online from the big box retailers. Sure, you could order some from Amazon, but the prices are crazy, and they aren’t available on Prime, so who knows when it will even arrive?
Did you know that there are TONS of small businesses who hand-dye their yarn, ship quickly, and provide personal service? I have gathered up some of my favorite indie yarn dyers to share with you today!
(ad disclosure: I’m a blogger. We have ads. If you click one, I might get some small compensation. Standard issue, but you can read all about it in my boring privacy policy if you really want to.)
I have been absolutely loving following these accounts on Instagram. Everyone’s yarn is so pretty, and I want ALL of it! So without further fluff, here are my favorite indie yarn dyers:
Nicky surprised me with a gift of this gorgeous hank. She hand-dyes her Merino Wool, and even goes live on her Facebook page so you can watch the magic happen! This yarn is so soft, and the only reason I haven’t made something with it yet is because I just don’t know what to make. Coincidentally, it matches my current favorite hook!
She also offers a “dye my way” option in her Etsy shop, where you can customize your yarn and even watch her dye yours live! Have I convinced you yet to go have a peek?
Based in Albuquerque, New Mexico), this new yarn company has a Breaking Bad theme, featuring colors named after the characters from the show. If you have watched the show, you may have noticed that every character has a color theme. The newest character color in the shop is called Marie Schrader, and it is so perfect! If you are a fan of the show (or even if you aren’t), you should definitely go check out this place!
This Etsy shop offers Dyed to Order Skeins in a huge variety of gorgeous colorways! You can choose your weight from Nylon Fingering, Merino Fingering, Merino DK, Merino Worsted or Merino Bulky, so pretty much any project you want to do, you can get the right size yarn in just the color you want, without discovering halfway through a project that the dye lots don’t match, which happens so often when you buy yarn off the shelf!
Ashleigh offers a huge variety of both yarn weight and yarn type, whether you are looking for mohair, cotton, merino or a blend. Her spring colors are already sold out, which is awesome for her, but unfortunate for us. Make sure you follow her so you can get your hands on some yarn from the next batch!
Sarah offers gorgeous yarns, perfect for creating your own handmade wardrobe. She is based in Phoenix, Arizona, and many of her colors reflect the beauty of the desert. She offers yarn kits, custom orders, and even a yarn club!
Fatima offers gorgeous hanks of yarn, either in fingering or worsted weight, and even has some stitch markers too! She dyes in small batches, which means that your projects will truly be one of a kind!
Have I enticed you to go find some new yarn and support a small business? Which one is your favorite, and what will you make first? Let me know in the comments!
Until next time,
Happy Hooking!
