Friendship Triangle Scarf FREE Crochet Pattern

Straight Hooked Friendship Triangle Scarf FREE Pattern

Hello, my friends. I hope you have some worsted weight yarn, a 5mm hook and the urge to create something, because today is Free Pattern Friday! For this project, you can of course use any worsted weight yarn you choose, but I highly recommend that you try some ALC hand-dyed Superwash Merino Wool from Avery Lane Creations. My friend Nicky, the owner, sent me a hank of her gorgeous yarn and I absolutely fell in love. It is so soft, and it resists the urge to tangle. Nicky offers to cake your yarn for a small fee, but as I wanted to try on a yarn crown, I received my yarn in a hank. After snapping a couple of selfies, I set out to cake my yarn myself, and my sweet boy Biscuit wound himself up in the hank as I was trying to wind it. I was certain we were headed for a whole evening of knot removal, but to my complete surprise, the yarn never tangled!

(ad disclosure: I’m a blogger. We have ads. If you click one, I might get some small compensation. Standard issue, but you can read all about it in my boring privacy policy if you really want to.)

Once I had my hank caked, I started working on designing the Friendship Triangle Scarf. I got about halfway through before I set it down and realized that I hated the way the increases were heading. Now here was the true test: How was this gorgeous, soft as butter yarn going to hold up to some serious frogging? Was it going to snag as I pulled out my stitches? Have that “someone frogged me before they settled on this project” frayed appearance that we all know too well? Become nightmarishly unusable? Uh, no. None of that. I had no snags as I frogged, it once again did not tangle, and it worked back up exactly as beautifully as the first time. I was really sad when I finished the scarf, because that meant I would have to return to my mass-produced store bought yarn that isn’t nearly as forgiving or fun to work with.

I call this the Friendship Scarf because the yarn was a gift from my friend Nicky. If you don’t know her yet, you really should hop on over to her Instagram, Facebook, YouTube or blog and find out why I love her so much. She offers a Dye My Way in her Etsy shop, where you can choose everything about your yarn- the weight, the colors and the dying method, and THEN you can watch her dye your yarn LIVE on facebook! I don’t know of any other indie yarn dyers who do this, and it is such an awesome experience.

Nicky also has recently introduced her ALC Yarn Club, which is a monthly subscription box. You get her amazing hand dyed yarn, patterns and a surprise every month. There is currently a waitlist, so get your name on it so you can join the club when it opens again!

My wonderful testers breezed through the Friendship Scarf, and reported back to me that they loved the pattern. One of my testers is planning on making several for Christmas gifts this year. I hope that you will love the Friendship Scarf as much as I do, and send all of your friends here so they can make their own scarves as well!
